Challenging Treks in Nepal

Nepal, country of Himalayas, offers variety of options from easy to strenuous level trekking adventures. There are several extreme difficult treks but they offer the lifetime time experience as well. The level of difficulty determines according to the duration, remoteness, altitude (elevation) and availability.

Initially, we need to be prepared both mentally and physically to complete such strenuous treks. Experienced and fit trekkers can easily complete such treks.  By saying challenging and strenuous, it doesn’t mean that, we are scaling the peaks. They are relatively uneasy because of high altitude, freezing environment, trekking trials, conveniences, weather and temperature etc. Some challenging and strenuous treks of Nepal are listed below.

Everest Three High Passes Trek

Elevation: 5,550m

Difficulty level: Very Strenuous

Trek Duration: 18 to 21 days

You should pass three high passes over 5,000m including Kongma La (5,535m), Cho La (5,420 m) and Renjo La (5,340m) of the Everest Region. This journey is quite strenuous than that of Everest Base Camp Trek. Next, we get an ample opportunity to view the peaks from the vantage point, Kala Patthar. Moreover, the pristine water of Gokyo Lakes is breathtaking.

Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek

Elevation: 5,360m

Difficulty level: Very Strenuous

Trek Duration: 17 to 21 days

As we have to walk above the snowline 5,000m for three days and we have to carry everything that we need during the trek, it is strenuous. This is camping trek as there are no single teahouses and lodges on the journey, the level of difficulty increases. We round Dhaulagiri, 6th tallest peak of the world.

Upper Dolpo Trek

Elevation: 4,702m

Difficulty level: Fairly Strenuous

Trek Duration: 28 to 30 days

One of the fairly strenuous journey Upper Dolpo Trek, offers adventures for the trekkers. Marching via western sides of Dhaulagiri ranges enhances the spectacular views of the snow-clad peaks including Annapurna ranges, Mt. kangirowa and Dhaulagiri massifs.

In this adventurous journey, the trekkers pass via cultural villages and colorful nature. As this trek occurs in a restricted area, one needs a special permit. Moreover, you will transverse passing Shey Phoksundo Lake, Shey Gompa, and Shey Phoksundo National Park which are worth to visit.

Nar Phu Valley Trek with Thorong La Trek

 

Elevation: 5,416m

Difficulty level: Moderately Strenuous

Trek Duration: 18-21 days

Nar Phu Trek, a trek a restricted area with distinct permit to the fascinating village/Valley passing one of the highest passes of Thorong La (5,416m).  As you have to pass two high elevated passes, the trek becomes more strenuous. If you want more challenging ones, can trek to Tlicho Lake and Mesokanto La pass.

Manaslu Circuit Trek

Elevation: 5,125m

Difficulty level: Challenging

Trek Duration: 14-16 days

One of the least visited and less crowded trek-Manaslu Circuit Trek is gaining popularity these days. Passing Larkya-La (5,125) is strenuous because is usually has a heap of the snow. But after passing it, you will have lifetime memorable experience. These days there are some infrastructures but is still underdeveloped.
