Upper Mustang Trek is a chance to explore an isolated areas around north of Annapurna region. During our Upper Mustang Trekking, we find many similarities between cultures, traditions and lifestyle of Tibetan people. Along with Tibetan Buddhism influenced culture and traditions, the topographical structure is also quite similar. This place is also called mini Tibet due to similar beautiful trans-Himalayan landscapes. Visiting the Lo-Manthang palaces, local monasteries while witnessing the best of culture and nature are highlights of this Upper Mustang Trek.
We begin our Upper Mustang Trekking enjoying a scenic drive or boarding a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara followed by next day domestic flight to Jomsom. Then we start to trek towards Kagbeni, Chhomnang, Giling, Tsarang and finally arrive at capital of Upper Mustang (Lo-Manthang). Then we head forward to Mustang Region from where we start our trekking activity towards Kagbeni. The capital of upper Mustang (Lo-manthang) is reached following the banks of Kaligandaki River upstream via Chele, Chhomnag, Giling and Charang. They still have their head of the tribe and respect like a king. Upper Mustang Trek is also a great chance to explore local lifestyle, which gives unique feeling to outsiders. This forbidden kingdom of Upper Mustang was opened to outsiders only since 1991. Another major highlights of this area is the local Tiji Festival celebrated annually during March. Further we trek through pilgrimage site of Muktinath where we can experience religious blend between Buddhism and Hinduism. It is a famous pilgrimage site with plenty of cultural exploration opportunities. In this way, we trek to jomsom and fly to Pokhara. And after a leisure day at Pokhara we either drive or board a flight back to Kathmandu.
Upper Mustang Trek is accessible all year around as this region is a trans-Himalayan region where very less rainfall is received even during monsoon. Therefore, if you are physically fit and want to explore the less explored region of Nepal; then plan for Upper Mustang Trek with Adventure Sherpa Tracks for your next holidays.
