Trip Overview

The spectacular trek to Makalu Base Camp has long been one of Nepal’s best kept trekking secrets. Closed to the outside world until the 1950s, when Eric Shipton first trekked into the region, it has remained relatively inaccessible and little-known except to a handful of keen trekkers; camping en route. Adventure Sherpa Tracks is delighted to now be able to offer the trail to the foot of the world’s fifth highest peak. The Makalu Base Camp trek is a remote route that encompasses some of the best that Nepal has to offer — quiet trails, vibrant terraced farmland, rural cultures, rhododendron forests, rare wildlife and several 8,000 meter-plus peaks. For experienced trekkers who relish a challenge, this is a great trek with ample rewards.

The Makalu Base Camp trek is an ideal trek for nature-loving trekkers who want to experience a variety of landscapes and cultures, as well as uncommon views of some of the world’s tallest mountains, including Everest.This trek can be fairly challenging in some parts depending upon your level of physical fitness.
