Trip Overview

Kanchenjunga trekking is wilderness & unspoiled trekking trails in far  eastern part of Nepal. In Tibetan, ‘Kanchenjunga’ means ‘the five treasure houses of snow’, which gives you some idea of what to expect should you visit this area. Kanchenjunga circuit  trek is a chance to reach the base camp of the world’s third tallest mountain on a remote mountain trail ideal for trekkers who enjoy the solitude. This trek has a remote charm that calls for all trekkers to discoverer the undiscovered remote region of Nepal . The trek provides opportunity to experience the local cultures of Rai, Limbu and Sherpa mostly along with rich and diverse landscape. Trekking in the Kanchenjunga area is a long course and offers one of the best high altitude trekking trips, leading the famous peaks of eastern Nepal as Kanchenjunga and mysterious Jannu via the enormous Yalung Glacier.

Kanchenjunga trekking trail has more exciting, challenging and popular organizing trip to situated in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area which is spread over 2,035m sq km. Trekking in Kanchenjunga region is marvelous trekking experience of Nepal Himalaya. Kanchenjunga trek start from 1200 meters (4,000ft) to 5180 meters (17,094ft) above sea level. Itinerary Overview

Day 01:Arrive in  K athmandu and transfer to hotel

Day 02: Fly to Bhadrapur, drive to Ilam (1,677m/5502ft)   4-6 hrs

Day 03:  Drive to Taplejung ( 1,442m/4,731ft )   4-5 hrs

Day 04: Taplejung to Lalikharka (2,265m/7,431ft )  / 4-5 hrs

Day 05: Lalikharka to Khesewa (2,120m/6,956ft)     / 5-6 hrs

Day 06 :Khesewa to Mamankhe  (1,785m/5,857ft)  / 5-6 hrs

Day 07:Mamankhe to Yamphudin  (2,080m/6,824ft)            4-5 hrs

Day 08: Yamphudin to Tortong   (2,995m/9,827ft)   7-8 hrs

Note: Please take care to note that your Sherpa guides  has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to your safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee  it. Weather, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. Your  Sherpa guides will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required. Above itinerary are just a guideline  and easily customize-able at your preference.

 

Day to Day itinerary

After landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and  completing your custom formalities pick up your luggage and look for representative of Adventure Sherpa Tracks who who will be with display board at the arrival gate. You  will be greeted by our representative and he/she  will pick you and transfer  to your  hotel. Then check-in at the hotel, freshen up and take a rest. In evening or noon , you  are introduced to your  fellow participants ,guides and discuss about our trip at Hotel where you stay.

After breakfast, our guide will collect you from your hotel and accompany you to the airport. The short flight to Bhadrapur takes us over the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding hill and through some of the mountains Nepal is famous for. A free mountain flight of 1 hr takes us to  Bhadrapur, we will drive about 4 hours  to Ilam about the heart of the tea plantation area of the country.Overnight

After breakfast, we drive for 4 hours through terraced fields and hills to reach Taplejung where we spend the night. There will be time to explore the town after lunch. It is an interesting place with many Buddhist gompas.  At one of these gompas, we can see butter lamps which have been burning continuously for 400 years. A stream outside the gompa turns prayer wheels which send the mantra “om mane padme hum” to the heavens.

Today  we will head to Lalikharka by 4-5 hours of trekking. Lalikharka is a beautiful village in Panchthar District in the Mechi Zone of eastern Nepal. It is a simultaneous ascent and descent on a trail that mostly passes through lush green forests all the way to Lalikharkha. Overnight

After breakfast we begin our trek to Khesewa . It is mostly an easy descent until Phundrawa. From here we begin our ascent. It is a steep climb until Yangpang from where we climb steadily up until Phumphe Danda followed by another ascent to Khesewa. Our trek will be through forests and small villages.Today we will hikes about 5-6 hours  Overnight.

 

We begin our trek towards the Kabeli Khola after the breakfast . Next, we walk on a trail that passes through forests before crossing a small stream. On the way, we enjoy amazing views of the Himalayan peaks while also passing through several beautiful small villages. Today  our hiking will be about 5-6 hours Overnight in Mamankhe.

Today our’s trek will  be mostly uphill on an easy trail whereby we mostly walk alongside the Kabeli Khola. During the walk, we also admire the beautiful ridge behind the stream. We continue our walk and admire a beautiful waterfall nearby. After walking for some time. we cross a small suspension bridge. We pass through small settlements before reaching Yamphudin to spend the night.Todays hiking will be arund 4-5 hours.

Today we  begin our walk on a path commonly used by the villagers and pass through terraced farms and green meadows.Today we will hike around 6-8 hours Along the way, we have the constant company of the Himalayas to enjoy. Our walk will be on a trail along the Amji Khola. We also cross a pass at Lassiya Bhanjyang before reaching Tortong. Overnight

After breakfast  begin our steady climb to Cheram. Our trail is right at the side of the Simbuwa Khola. We enjoy walking in the beautiful Lalung valley and have Tuplung peak for the company for the most of today’s journey. We pass through thick rhododendron forest and enjoy the magnificence of the Yalung Glacier. Todays hike will be short around 2-3 hours .Overnight in Cheram.

Today  spend a day in Cheram which will help us acclimatize to the high altitude. We can spend the rest of the day resting and you can take  part in small hikes and explore the areas around the Yalung Glacier. There is also a viewpoint for Kabaru and Rathong peaks. Overnight

After breakfast we begin our short trek . From Cheram, we ascend for sometime before reaching the snout of the Yalung Glacier. It is a beautiful walk on a valley trail. We also cherish the views of several Himalayan peaks. We pass through a small settlement of Lapsang before reaching Ramche. Today’s hike will be around 3-4 hours . Overnight .

Today , we walk further up the valley. We then follow a stream before climbing on the moraine top until confronted by Kanchenjunga’s southern face. We walk further ahead for a glimpse of the Jannu Himal. We continue our trek further towards the Oktang Monastery. From here, we climb further up and reach the Yalung Base Camp. The views from the base camp are extraordinary. Kumbakarna (Jannu), Nyukla Lachung and other Himalayan peaks are close by. We descend and spend the night at Cheram. Overnight

After the breakfast we  begin our trek . We cross four passes today beginning with Sinelapche Bhanjyang. After crossing the pass, we continue to Mirgin La pass. We continue trekking and reach the Sinion La pass which is not very far. From here, we ascend to Sele La pass. There are prayer flags strung across one of the steeper sections of the trail which is very near to the Sele La pass. We cross the pass. After 6-7 hrs of hiking we reach Sele La .Overnight .

We begin our short day  trek after breakfast. We walk towards the north with Tangbgharma Danda nearby. We reach a chorten marked by prayer flags which marks the start of a steep trail. We descend through rhododendron, birch and pine forests before reaching Ghunsa. It is a beautiful village with houses with dark and weathered pine walls and Buddhist prayer flags. Today we will hike around 2-3 hrs .Overnight.

We walk towards the north with Tangbgharma Danda nearby after the breakfast .We reach a chorten marked by prayer flags which marks the start of a steep trail. We descend through rhododendron, birch and pine forests before reaching Ghunsa. It is a beautiful village with houses with dark and weathered pine walls and Buddhist prayer flags. Today hiking will be around 5-6 hours .Overnight .

This is going to be a long and tiring day as we need to trek for around seven hours to reach Lhonak from Khambachen. We will begin our trek early in the morning.Today our trek will be changeling , and an early start is needed. We trek through rocky fields and large boulders on the hillside along the riverbank and arrive at a waterfall. We then cross a bridge to Ramtang monastery. We then come across a landslide section which we must pass through at a steady pace before descending to the river and finally arriving at Lhonak.Our hiking will be around 5-6 hours today . Overnight .

Today from Lhonak, we trek towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. Our trail is alongside the gigantic Kanchenjunga Glacier. After passing Pangpema, we descend towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The view from the base camp is extraordinary. Mt. Kanchenjunga, Jannu Himal, and other Himalayan peaks are ours to admire. We descend back to Pangpema to spend the night. Today’s hike will be  around 6-7 hours

From Pangpema we trace back our steps to Lhonak.  Today’s hiking will be around  3 -4 hours .Overnight

Continuing our return trip, we will leave Lhonak. From Lhonak, we descend all the way to Ghunsa via Kambache. It is the same route we took when we were climbing up.Descending trail is easier. So we can easily make it to Lhonak from Ghunsa in a single day without having to take a day of rest in Khambachen. The trail is scenic with views of Kanchenjunga, Gimmigela Peak, Mera Peak and other peaks and mountains at the backdrop. Overnight .

From Ghunsa, we descend towards Phale. We pass through several Manes and a monastery nearby. We walk through Juniper forests and reach Phale. From here, it is a steady descent to Gyabla. We cross a bridge over Chhundatangka Khola to reach Gyabla. As we continue our trek, we see a waterfall nearby. We also cross a suspension bridge over Sumbung Khola before reaching Amjilosa. Overnight.

After walking for a while, we see a beautiful waterfall nearby. We continue our trek and pass a small settlement of Solima before crossing a suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola. We cross another suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola and reach Sukathum. Our trail passes through several villages and is beside Thunsa Khola at first followed by Tamor Nadi before reaching Chirwa. Overnight.

After a wonderful time in Chirwa, we head to Taplejung by trekking for 7- 8 hours. The trekking trails along the way to Mitlung offers greenery at it’s best, floras and faunas and especially quaint villages always ready to welcome us. Overnight

Today we move toward Bhadrapur from Taplejung by bus. The ride will be around  9 hours.

Today, we catch  flight to Kathmandu after our long mountain journey. Our amazing journey to the Kanchenjunga circuit comes to an end today.You can rest and relax throughout the day in Kathmandu at your hotel. Casual day for shopping  some gifts home from Nepal for friends and relatives.To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, we will have a farewell dinner hosted by Adventure Sherpa Tracks .

The reserved day is for any delays in the domestic flight .  Today, you can spend the day as you please in the Kathmandu and casual day for Shopping & sightseeing around Kathmandu .

Your adventure in Nepal comes to an end today! Approximately three hours before your scheduled international flight, Our representative from Adventure Sherpa Tracks  will drop you off at the Tribhuwan International airport  and does  a farewell.
