Trip Overview

Nestled between the Khumbu and Gokyo Valleys in Nepal’s Everest region, Cholatse is a spectacular peak with steep soaring lines on every aspect. Our expedition acclimatises first on Lobuche East, before moving to the challenging alpine style climb of Cholatse. The challenging South West Ridge of Cholatse is a hidden gem of the Himalaya and a solid mountaineering objective for experienced climbers.

Comparatively Cholatse Peak is very hard to climb than other peak in Nepal. Mt Cholatse is the technically difficult peak it requires careful ascent. We recommend cholatse peak for those climbers who are experience in ice and rock climbing. Only few climbers get success in cholatse peak climbing. Climbers need a vast mountaineering ability to climb Cholatse peak.

Our climbing Sherpa will   will check our equipment(s) to make sure for one last time to get us ready for our adventure. This step will also ensure that if any equipment are missing  Overnight in Kathmandu.

You will  take an early morning flight to Lukla which is where all Everest treks begin. We meet the rest of our crews members in Lukla and start trekking . We walk on a trail that gradually descends to Cheplung village from where we get a glimpse of Mt. Khumbila, a sacred mountain which has never been climbed. From here, we gradually descend until Phakding crossing beautifl mane walls and Chortens along the way  through Sherpa villages .Overnight in Phakding.

After the breakfast We follow the Dudh Koshi, ascending through Himalayan pine forests .The track leads us through many suspension bridges, one of which is the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. First, we catch the wonderful prospect of the glistening Mt. Thamserku (6618 m). Through the settlement of Benkar, Chumoa, Monjo, we come to the check post and entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. We pass through the last village of Jorsale before reaching Namche Bazaar and climbing to Namche begins .Today is a exicting day because if you are lucky with the weather you get to see Everest from Top Danda

Besides being a splendid destination to shop for traditional crafts, Namche remains the central trading post in the Khumbu that attracts Himalayan and lowland merchants where you can also pick your last minute gears if anything is missing .

Acclimatization is important for us to adjust to the gradual change in environment. It will also help us to prevent catching Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).  Today we hike to Khumjung villages, enjoy the Himalayan vista from Syangboche or tour the quaint streets of Namche Bazaar. We can also visit the Tourist Visitor Center where we can see a variety of things related to the first Everest ascenders and Sherpa culture. This visit will also get us acquainted with various plant and animal life of the Everest region. In Khumjung we can even visit a monastery that houses a yeti scalp! We also climb up to the airstrip above Syangboche and enjoy incredible views of Kongde, Thamserku and Khumbila mountains. We walk back to Namche Bazaar to spend the night.

Leaving Namche, you follow the trails of Dudh Koshi River upstream and ascent on a trail filed with Mani walls and prayer flags. The peaks of Everest (8848m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Lhotse (8414m), Taboche (6367m), and so on can be seen glimmering on the skyline. You reach Dhole after passing through several Sherpa villages and small monasteries. Overnight in Dhole.

Another beautiful day in the lap of the Himalayas as you will start to continue the hike towards the Gokyo valley. You will trail high above the valley floor, while Cho Oyu continues to loom in front of you for the latter part of the walk from the borders of Nepal and Tibet. You will come across some small Sherpa herding huts on your way and after a few more hours of trekking, you will reach the charming Yak-herding settlement of Luza. For the Khunde and Khumjung inhabitants, this is one of the many seasonal settlements, the next one being Machermo which will be arriving in about 45 minutes, after having climbed steeply out of Dole, to a set of prayer flags which marks an end to the settlement. then, you will continue climbing up and down once again and finally reach Machermo, where you will camp out for an overnight stay.

We ascend on a hill and enjoy views of the Dudh Koshi valley and Kangtega, Thamserku and Cho-Oyu mountains. Beyond the ridge the valley widens as the trail passes through a Chorten and reaches Phangga. We descend to the river bank before climbing up to the terminal moraine of the Ngozamba Glacier on a steep trail. We pass through Longpongo, Raboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari before reaching Gokyo. On the trail next to the first lake, we see what is believed to be the footprints of a Lama (Buddhist priest). We explore Dudh Pokhari before calling it a night. Overnight in Gokyo.

Today we  spend another day in Gokyo to acclimatize to the high altitude. If the weather is good, we climb Gokyo Ri today. From the top of Gokyo Ri we admire the Himalayan vista and the tranquil Gokyo lakes. We also hike to the fourth and the fifth Gokyo lakes. The 4th lake is only about 3km north of Gokyo. It is marked by high cliffs and Himalayan peaks rising above it. We continue to walking a little further and reach the 5th lake. A climb up a nearby hill will guarantee us remarkable views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makulu. We can see a lot more from here – the spot is called Scoundrel’s Viewpoint. From the northern part of the 5th lake we see the Cho Oyu base camp and Ngazumpa Glacier which is the biggest glacier the world. We walk back to Gokyo to spend the night.

If we did not climb the Gokyo Ri the previous day, we can do that today. Climbing to the top of Gokyo Ri is demanding as it is steep and takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach the top. But the scenery of Gokyo village, on the edge of third lake overlooked by Cholatse and the broad Nogzumpa Glacier, is magnificent. We are surrounded by panoramic mountains like Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, Kangtega, Taboche, Cholatse, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Changtse, and Pumori. The sight of sunrays kissing Everest which towers over all the surrounding peaks is astounding. We trek through the Ngazumpa Glacier to the mountain on the other side. Next, traverse along the edge of that mountain and then meander into Thagnak. It will be a short hike today with an afternoon of rest which will prepare us for long hiking days and elevation gain to come.

Today we will begin our trek early in the morning .Today it is  going to be one of the toughest days of the trip. The Cho La pass is not itself difficult, but it is steep and involves a glacier traverse on the eastern side. We need to be careful as the trail is vertical and the rocks glazed by ice may cause trouble by making the trail slippery.  The trail from Phedi climbs through a ravine and a rocky trail. While trekking through the side of a frozen lake, we reach at the top of the pass decorated with prayer flags. The pyramidal Ama Dablam presides over a range of mountains on the south even as Cholatse soars to the west and Lobuche East and Baruntse rises sharply to our right. We need to pass through some crevasses before we reach Dzongla Village. The village provides great views of Cholatse, Ama Dablam, Lobuche mountains along with the Pheriche Village far below.Overnight

Today we trek to Cholatse Base Camp after breakfast. It takes 5/6 hours to base camp. Overnight at BC.

Today is a challenging and existing day for the summit.

This day is for the summit in case of bad weather or any other problems

In case of bad weather

Trekking back through the main EBC trial

Since you are back from the high altitude today’s hiking back will be easy and pleasant. From Pangboche we retrace our steps down to the Imja Khola and up through the forest to Tengboche. If interested, we can also visit nuns at the Tengboche monastery. After lunch at Tengboche, we continue through the hillside blanketed by rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, our trail follows the Dudh Koshi gorge descending rapidly through the pine forests before reaching Sansa. We keep a lookout for wildlife such as mountain goats, snow leopards, colorful pheasants, etc., while passing through the forest. After passing a chorten, we reach the army camp at Namche Bazaar.  Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Today, we   catch a early morning flight to Kathmandu after our long mountain journey. We can rest and relax throughout the day in Kathmandu at your hotel.
